Welcome to the home of the Flexhooter and Twinshooter heads.
Here you will find all the answers that you need to choose the right head - Pro or Mini, Black or Silver….
So what’s all the fuss about?
Flexshooter is an ingenious double ball head design where the main ball is used for horizon levelling and the upper ball is used for fluid motion.
Horizon levelling is so important as it allows you to shoot straight, no matter what the ground profile is like. Simply adjust the tripod as best as you can then quickly use the built in spirit level on the main head to get Flexshooter completely level. It saves boring workflow corrections and means that your kit works better as it’s balanced - it’s vital too when you have water or the horizon in play.
The unique design of the head means that once you get the centre of balance correct ( during the setup ) then you will never have to lock your head up to support your lens, the head will support it as if it’s weightless, holding it up at the angle you left it. They don't flip over when you put heavy kit on them. Nope, your valuable kit is held safely in place by the patented internal counter-balancing spring system. No need to lock up that head anymore, FlexShooter heads hold any kit in place without locking up, meaning you can move to recompose or follow action instantly. No more missed shots. A head design for photographers by photographers.
All heads incorporate a lever clamp on the top ball to securely hold in place either your lens or camera, depending on what you need to shoot. This lever clamp makes it easy to attach the head to the camera / lens in challenging environments, perhaps where you are wearing gloves.
Of course every photographer is different, some of you prefer very restricted motion of a head, some prefer very loose. That's why every Flexshooter head has a friction control, the bright silver knob, that allows you to "customise" how it moves. With a simple twist you can make a huge difference to how the head performs with your kit.
So why am I involved? Well I have been since the very start as I saw the potential of the head for all my hide work like you see here in Scotland earlier this year. Flexshooter heads make my job so much easier, I am more stable so I can shoot at lower shutter speeds for those creative shots. It allows me to be confident that I can get a stable platform no matter what the situation - I have used the heads on sloping hillsides, in the water and in central Cardiff (a very challenging environment!).
PRO or MINI?
We have two sizes of Flexshooter, the PRO and the MINI.
The PRO is the original head, our workhorse that made the company name and are used by many thousands of photographers worldwide. They can take enormous loads upto 45KG yet are small and compact weighing only 680g.
Small but perfectly formed, the MINI is our most compact and designed for loads that do not exceed 9.5KG. The mini Arca will do the job for most photographers and we have plenty using it across the world with full frame systems and 600 / 800mm lenses. It is particularly suited though to those photographers using mirrorless camera systems and looking to save weight without any compromise in performance, perhaps with a 150-400, 200-600 or 200-500mm lens attached. It's a perfect size to fit in any rucksack.
It’s all personal choice really, when Andy travels he just grabs the first one he gets from his kit cupboard as he knows that both will do a great job!
All heads mount onto a tripod using a 3/4” screw thread, which is pretty standard these days.
Black or Silver?
We have two variations in the colour of the main levelling ball depending on which head you choose.
For the PRO head (on the left) both balls are black, whereas for the MINI head ( on the right) the outer ball is a silver finish. That’s the only difference, unfortunately the MINI is not available in black.
What’s the Twinshooter?
Twinshooter is a special accessory that fits on top of a Flexshooter PRO head allowing you to mount not one but two camera systems at the same time! Now you might wonder why? The answer is flexibility. It can be time consuming to change lenses to get a different perspective of a scene, well with the Twinshooter you don’t have to as you can shoot close and far shots with the minimum of fuss.
It’s great for those photographers that want to shoot multiple compositions at the same time.
In this image you can see that I have a 300mm f2.8 and a 200-600mm mounted together, I have also used a 70-200mm f2.8 with a 600mm f4.
It weighs just 720 g and takes a maximum load of 2 x 20KG.
