Galapagos Explorer 2010

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

Following on from our amazing success in 2008 I am pleased to announce a return to Galapagos for October 2010. Using the same friendly team that allowed us so many amazing opportunities before, I have picked the best itinerary that the islands can provide to give you the ultimate Galapagos experience. Whether you want to lay next to the amazing land iguana, laugh at the antics of friendly Boobies, get up close and personal to a Giant Tortoise or swim with a Green Turtle I have the ideal cruise for you. All this in a friendly atmosphere with like minded people and a multi award winning wildlife photographer as your expedition leader (err that is me!!). No other Galapagos cruise can deliver the same level of experience and few offer such a unique 10 day trip; I have decided on 10 days as the optimum, 7 days is too short and 14 is just too long and ends up with "filler" landings  So with us you will get the maximum number of landings in the best light, visit only the best wildlife islands and also get regular snorkelling trips which have become a real favourite on our Galapagos tours and something pretty unique to us.

Cruising the Galapagos is a very relaxing experience! Our days will start with an early breakfast, usually pre dawn, to allow us to be ready to land as soon as possible. Depending on the activity that we find we will usually spend several hours on shore, photographing what we see; each island is so different in this respect. Then, as the light gets worse and tourists start to arrive, we will head back to the ship. If we are in a good snorkelling location then after a short break we will clamber into our wetsuits and head out for an hour or so. Then it is time for a chill-out on the sun deck and lunch, whilst the Captain moves the ship to the next location. This gives us a nice relaxing time during the middle of the day which sets us up for the afternoon landing. Being so close to the equator the light can be very harsh in the afternoon so we will adjust our landing times accordingly as there is little point frying alive in the heat of a lava field! Once the afternoon landing has been completed we will assemble on the top deck for a beer to watch the sunset. Before dinner Andy and your guides will give you a briefing on the next day, both in terms of what you will see and the best places to look. Andy will show images from all locations taken in 2008 to give you some ideas and will answer any technical questions. After a bit more beer oclock it is then time for dinner and bed. Overnight the ship will sail from one location to another so that we make the best use of the available light, a perfect setup!

Many people run tours to Galapagos, why come on an Andy Rouse tour? Well the main reason is one of experience. My team and I know how to work the system to get the best for all of our clients and hopefully you can see from the results that we are successful. We have a small ship, with only 14 clients, and a very friendly crew. The guides, who are the same as last time, are friendly, helpful, in tune to our needs and most importantly work for me on the cruise (i.e. I am in the Sergeant Major!). The guides are very important for us as last time we saw so many groups getting led around quickly and not being allowed to stop for long enough for even a Canon to focus on a rock! Our pace will never be rushed, we will take our time for photography. Whilst the wildlife of Galapagos is friendly and it is easy to get photographs, getting great and interesting pictures is surprisingly difficult and you will need all of my expertise for this. So in conclusion whilst other tours will rush you round Galapagos, our Galapagos Explorer cruise will allow you to experience it to the fullest and see all the best that it has to offer at your own pace. All in the company of like minded, social people, guaranteed geek free.

Galapagos Explorer 1 will run between October 6th and October 19th 2010. The cost is £6500 per person, based on sharing a cabin. This price includes your charter costs, hotels and transfers in Quito, services of all your guides and your return international airfare from London to the Galapagos. We have looked at many other tours, their structure and pricing, and feel that with the flight included, the great itinerary and the services of your expedition team that this is a very good deal indeed. This tour is being run in partnership again with Wildlife & Wilderness, whose ATOL bonding (no 6330) guarantees you peace of mind and security with your booking. There will be a maximum of 14 clients on board.

So wanna go?  If you are seriously interested in this trip, please download the full brochure below - time is of the essence as places are booking fast.
