Welcome all Bloggers!

Hello everyone and welcome to the RouseBLOG. Many of you have contacted us requesting for a more personal view on the life of a wildlife photographer, so here is the result. I will use the BLOG as a kind of RouseCam, showing new images as they get taken and hopefully inspiring you to get out and do the same. You can help to support the blog pages by puchasing books, prints and clothing from our online store and by coming along to one of the workshops that we hold several times during the year. In return I will try to make it this BLOG fun, informative and educational, and will limit my West Ham comments to a minimum, especially for those Aston Villa fans who have trouble reading big words!

RSS Feed - We now have an RSS feed for the BLOG so if you want to use it then here is the XML link - http://www.andyrouse.co.uk/blog_rss.xml

I had a fun interview with Roy Noble today on BBC Radio Wales about my recent gorilla trip to Rwanda. Roy is a really good interviewer and I have been with him several times, he always gives me interesting questions. Anyway here is the link to the BBC iPlayer, it will only be available for the next 7 days so click here to listen.

Amazing Rwanda

Well my Rwanda adventure is over and it has been a wonderful few weeks with Gorillas. Great clients too. There is just something about gorillas that takes them beyond just another species and into our very soul. It is certainly an emotional time when you stand face to face with them and I still feel it every time I see them. I have taken many pictures and my facebook fan site has received regular updates every day. I have a terrible connection here so the best way of viewing pix to is to check out my Mobile Me gallery from the trip which has about 40 of my favourites, just click here to access it.

And so it is time to leave Rwanda and head for home. It is a sad day in Rwanda today as the 7th April is the memorial day for the appalling Genocide that happened here. Many friends lost their families and for many millions of people across Rwanda today is one of reflection and hope for the future. This trip has been a...n amazing one on many levels. The gorillas of course have been amazing, but then again they always are. So many times I see photographers treat them as just another photo opportunity and I am so glad that my groups stood back and watched (with smiles on their faces) a lot of the time. But Rwanda is more than gorillas, it is the friendly smiles and waves, the "good morning" from children on the way to school and the determination and committment to saving the last of the mountain gorillas. In short Rwanda is a very special place indeed and I am always sad in my heart to say goodbye. Please spare a few seconds thought today for the people of Rwanda and let''s all work to ensure that nothing like this can ever happen again, all children deserve a future. Bye for now.

Ospreys

Well the secret is out. For the past few weeks I have been working on a very sensitive project in North Wales and this week saw the culmination of all the efforts with a mammoth session in the hide for the first time. The subject, the only pair of known nesting ospreys in wales. Working with RSPB Cymru, CCW and the great team at the Glaslyn site, I was given the first schedule 1 license for photography of ospreys in wales, which is a great honour but also a huge responsibility. One mistake and I could put them off nesting, which would be disasterous for them. Still despite the presure I had faith in my experience so a few weeks ago, long before the ospreys returned, we put up a couple of hides and buult them into the landscape. Then began the long wait. Well they finally returned this week so I waited a couple of days then got into the hide at 4am under the cover of darkness and stayed until almost dark the following night. I hardly dared move at first and didn''t take any shots when they came close. Then, when I was satisfied they has accepted me, I took a few and then a few more. It was a learning day for me so please excuse the pix, I will get better next time and will be returning many times in the coming months. Still not a bad start and at last we have pictures of ospreys in wales.

Oh a word of warning for those people thinking of trying to get close to the nest for a shot. The ospreys are on private land and monitored 24 hours a day by CCTV and a dedicated team. There is no close shot but an excellent view through telescopes and am amazing CCTV link above the nest too from the visitor centre. Anyway without further ado here are some pix.....

Not bad for a beginning eh! Now I am off to Rwanda for 10 days gorilla trekking. If you want to follow my adventures I will be updating my Facebook Fan Page (andyrousephoto) every day so drop in and take a look!

Tiger book is here!!

The tiger book is finally here!!!! I have published it officially this morning and both the Collectors and Standard editions are available from the online store, and this is the only place they are available at present. The book aims to raise funds for tiger conservation and is my first self published book. Anyway it is best to take a look at the online store where full information is given, including a look inside and customer testimonials. Priced at £25 for the standard edition and £89 for the collectors edition, a must for any animal lover worldwide.

To access the online store simply click here.
