Welcome all Bloggers!

Hello everyone and welcome to the RouseBLOG. Many of you have contacted us requesting for a more personal view on the life of a wildlife photographer, so here is the result. I will use the BLOG as a kind of RouseCam, showing new images as they get taken and hopefully inspiring you to get out and do the same. You can help to support the blog pages by puchasing books, prints and clothing from our online store and by coming along to one of the workshops that we hold several times during the year. In return I will try to make it this BLOG fun, informative and educational, and will limit my West Ham comments to a minimum, especially for those Aston Villa fans who have trouble reading big words!

RSS Feed - We now have an RSS feed for the BLOG so if you want to use it then here is the XML link - http://www.andyrouse.co.uk/blog_rss.xml

National Geographic Exhibition on Tigers announced!

In October I had my first major London exhibition at the National Geographic Store on Regents Street. The folks at National Geographic Stores were so impressed that today we are announcing not one but TWO tiger exhibitions at the National Geographic Stores in Singapore and London. Here is the poster, how proud am I to see that branding on one of my images:

The Singapore exhibition opened two days ago and the London one opens February 1st and runs for the whole month. I will showcase 40 of my most evocative Tiger images to date and it will be educational for all. A selection of open edition prints, posters and postcards will be available for purchase at the stores. Additionally I will have limited edition prints available from the new online store at the start if the exhibition, although we have a few there now - just click here.
This is a major year for tigers as it has been designated the International Year of the Tiger to coincide with the Chinese Year of the Tiger. Without making the public aware of the plight of the tiger we can never hope to save it, which is why this exhibition is so important. I have also produced my own Tiger book to raise funds for tiger conservation and this will be available towards the end of the exhibition. More details later on this.

I will be holding several events at the exhibition so please watch this space for details, including a website / Twitter / Facebook meet and greet and a Childrens afternoon complete with face painting. All info you need for now is in the attached press release, will update soon with more details!

Scottish Seabirds cruise

Regular readers of this BLOG will know that I like to charter my own ships. I have done so recently for the Arctic and Galapagos and for 2011 I planned to do it for the Scottish Islands. Well the captain of my Svalbard ship has offered me a charter for this year and I am gauging serious interest. Full details can be found in the attached PDF, but in brief it is a 10 day cruise from May 5th to May 15th departing Oban and wilol cost €4000 per person sharing. We will have no set itinerary but will visit seabird colonis such as Lunga, Staffa, Sanda and St Kilda, plus a few more besides. We will also visit remote island communities and be pure tourists! Our trips are fun first and foremost with the emphasis on spending quality time ashore in the best light and on experiencing the best small ship experience money can buy. Oh yes and you have me to lead you.....

Anyway if you are interested please take a look at the PDF and let me know!

One Goal attained

As photographers we all have our target species and for me one that has dogged me for several years is the Snipe. Well yesterday, thanks to a lot of patience and returning to the same spot time and time again I got lucky with this image, thought you might like to see it!

Happy New Year!

Well a new year begins and we are all full of aspiration and hope no doubt. I have been out and about the past couple of weeks doing some interesting work and photographing some species that you might not expect me to - water rails. Here are a few shots with the D3s, shot with ISO levels 1000-2000. The camera is amazing and I estimate it gives me half an hour longer to shoot at both ends of the day, just incredible. The new Quiet shutter is good too, at first I thought it was not much of a difference but I have been testing it on the wildlife and it certainly makes them jump less!

They are tricky little devils as they don''t actually do a lot but are always on the move. Highlight recently though was a female Sparrowhawk that perched closeby and let me get a few shots in some very red light:

Obscured but a wild bird and I am happy with anything of these that I can get. I am quite enjoying my time here in Wales working with the wildlife and meeting some really nice photographers who are willing to help. I am looking fro friendly landowners in South Wales that have foxes at the moment with a view to doing an extensive project on cubs so if you know any then please drop me an email.

Over the next couple of week I will be announcing some new seminars, Wildlife Photography Basics, a Masterclass with yours truly and Laurie Campbell plus another of my Visions of Light creative seminars. Prices will be fair and all bookable via the online store. Talking of which many thanks for all the support, we sold a lot of prints in the run up to Xmas and we are working on the January sale which should be announced soon. Phew, hardly time for sleep......
